One
of the most exciting developments in London during the last decade
has been the regeneration of the East End and Docklands.
This
historical area is fast becoming a fashionable place to live, work
and visit. British Waterways recently contacted us to refurbish
property along the River Thames including lock gates, a lock keeper's
cottage, bridges and pumphouses. The famous Limehouse swing bridge
proved a particularly interesting challenge. With the ebb and flow
of the tide, we often had only six foot of clearance to paint the
underside of the bridge and as little as three hours a day to work.
The humid summer weather, combined with a need to respect the sensitivities
of a domestic neighbourhood, posed further complications to our
determined team. By using special 'over-and-under' cherry-pickers
and meticulously planning our work schedules, we managed to get
the project completed on time and to the complete satisfaction of
the client. In fact, there's hardly a better looking bridge in Britain!
